Old Canning Techniques in Pictures

With everyone trying to buy locally, it’s no surprise that canning has once more become popular. That means there are already tons of blogs that give you good in depth instructions on how to can. So I won’t bore you, but direct you here and here for good canning techniques.

Instead, I’d like to share with you some of the very informative pictures that this book provides. What I find most interesting is how little canning practices have changed in the last fifty years. Of course, the technology has improved, but the basics have remained the same. I’ve included instructions on each of the pictures, click on the pictures to see what Norwegians believed to be absolutely essential in canning.
